How It Works

Bicycle Sources

The bicycles are donated by individuals, the Maple Valley Police and Vine Maple Place. Individuals are able to make bicycle donations at the following locations:

  • The Ravensdale Market, please inform an employee you are dropping off bicycles
  • Bicycle Rescue for Youth

Intake Process

The bikes are put through a thorough inspection to verify the condition of the bicycle and its roadworthiness.

The bikes that pass the initial inspection are then put in the queue for refurbishment. During the refurbishment process as many parts as possible are reused from other bicycles.

In most cases, the bikes need some new parts. We work with local bike stores and the internet to keep costs down. Any costs incurred are limited to $50.00 per bicycle

Any of the bikes that don’t pass inspection will be dismantled. Functional parts are used to refurbish other bikes.

Any parts that are not functional are recycled through various recycling organizations, thus keeping recyclable material from landfills.

The metals go to local recycling facilities. The tires and inner tubes are disposed of at the Les Schwab in Maple Valley.

To date, we have saved approximately 10,000 lbs. from ending up in the waste system.

Distribution Channels

We are in the process of establishing relationships with various agencies and organizations such as school districts, food banks, Rotary Club and other charities to assist in locating deserving children.

Relationships with local Law Enforcement agencies will also assist in identifying deserving children

We are planning bi-annual bike give away events in high traffic areas such as major chain store parking lots in low-income areas. This is to provide visibility of our program and ensure maximum coverage for the children.

Participation in local celebrations such as Maple Valley Days, Covington days, etc

Logistics

We are currently working out of our race car shop as we search for donated warehouse space.
We are supported by a small all-volunteer staff that has a passion for enhancing the lives of as many children as we can.
We also hope to engage local high school and college student volunteers.
